Bio
I first found yoga at a community college in 2005, when looking to fill an extra credit for the semester. After that course, I found yoga extremely helpful during very difficult periods of my life and finally fell into regular practice about a decade ago. At first, yoga was more of a workout, and what kind of shapes I could force my body into. As time went on, I began to search for more guidance in my teachers, and a deep connection with the practice and all that it had to offer.
I am a lover of education, and after completing my MS from Ohio State University in Environment and Natural Resources, I decided to deepen my practice through a 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training program in 2015. I worked in my field for a few years, teaching when I had the extra time, but noticed that there was something missing.
After some life changes, I found myself for the first time teaching yoga full-time and fell in love sense of purpose it created in my life. It gave me the opportunity to share this incredible practice, its connection with body, mind, and self, and the many benefits it can provide to my students daily. I truly approach teaching yoga in a way that I hope every single human can resonate with.
Andy King
instructor – baptiste power vinyasa
Bio
Andy started his yoga practice a quarter of a century ago while studying fine arts at The Ohio State University. Since completing his 200-hour training in the style of Baptiste Yoga he has led over 4000 hours of instruction to just about every age group and population in the greater Columbus area.
Through rigorous study of body mechanics and a strong belief that each student has the ability to be their own best teacher on the mat, he offers a grounding, approachable, straightforward, and breath-focused practice designed to be a moving meditation.
When not in the studio, he can usually be found taking every opportunity to get his hands dirty designing gardens, growing food, and studying native plants.

instructor – traditional ashtanga
Bio
In younger years I often dabbled in yoga, meditation and spiritual studies, finally giving myself to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga nearly twenty years ago: I’ve never looked back.
First starting this practice, I had to sit on two blocks and lean against a wall just to sit cross-legged; my body was so tight and crooked that I couldn’t do many postures I saw others do. My teacher encouraged me to plug along with whatever was possible, using many modifications that aided my attempts. What I noticed quickly was an inner happiness that I hadn’t expected, plus pain-relief my body had endured for years, not to mention strength improvement…. and all that for just showing up.
After many years of practice then many years of teaching, my life has been enriched beyond belief…physically, mentally, and spiritually. Studying with others on this path has enabled profound experiences and changes. To assist others in learning and to watch their best lives unfold is a gift beyond measure. Regardless of age, presumed (or real) limitations, fears, or physical conditions, this ‘yoga therapy’ can be approached and I am happy and honored to help in any way I can.
what our graduates say
This training was both informative and explorative, with several hands-on learning and teaching opportunities from the get-go. In this safe and respectful environment, we learned beyond the postures and delved into the various limbs of yoga. This training taught the anatomy and alignment of each posture, how to safely guide students into these postures, and how to cue a class that is approachable to all levels of yogis. Through this training, I found connection, support, deepened my yoga practice and my own teaching voice. I can't recommend this training enough!
Zen Yoga Teacher Training was a truly transformational experience. Whether you are interested in teaching yoga in the future or simply deepening your practice, Zen is sure to provide you the tools you're looking for. Ellen caters the program to her students, seeking feedback along the way and making sure everyone has the exact experience they are looking for. This process will challenge and change you for the better, so I encourage anyone who is considering it to take the leap of faith - you won't regret it!
When I initially signed up for YTT, it was to deepen my personal practice. With Zen's all encompassing yoga program, my curiosity was awakened and continues to be ignited. I am beyond grateful to have trusted myself to take this leap and cannot wait to share my learnings with others!
Zen Yoga's YTT program is definitely one of a kind! Whether you're interested in gaining an in-depth understanding of the origin of yoga and/or want to become a certified yoga teacher, this program is for you. I didn't quite know what to expect and I soon realized after day one that I made the right decision! From the digestible material on complex topics like anatomy to the chakra readings, meditation workshops, posture clinics, and everything in-between, this truly was a transformation experience! Ellen, Joanie, and Andy (as well as the guest teachers) all provided such a unique, supportive, and encouraging atmosphere to learn and grow. Thank you all so much for sharing your knowledge, practice, and years of experience with us!
If you have found yourself interested in deepening your own yoga practice, want to learn more about the ancient roots of yoga, or are interested in one day teaching yoga, I highly recommend Zen Yoga Teacher Training. I truly believe Zen tries to make yoga approachable and accessible for everyone, and I believe this honors the roots of yogic philosophy. Throughout training I gained an incredible amount of knowledge on the history of yoga, anatomy and alignment, direct queuing, ayurveda, breath work and so much more. I also learned so much about myself throughout this training, and I am beyond grateful for the sacred and safe space that Zen cultivated to allow for such openness and growth in our YTT family. Zen Yoga Teacher Training changed my life, and I am forever thankful.
